Russia’s largest recent barrage kills 13+; a Kh-101 crashes inside Poland

Hours after Zelensky warned publicly of an imminent attack, Russia launched 358 air assets — 320 downed — striking Kyiv, Lviv, Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava, killing at least 13, including two girls aged 5 and 12 in a village near Kryvyi Rih. Lviv took the worst residential damage, with two high-rises hit and 30+ injured. Most consequentially, a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile crossed into Poland and crashed near Otrocz in Lublin Voivodeship, ~100 km from the border — triggering nationwide air-raid sirens and sending PM Tusk to the impact site. If confirmed, it forces the alliance’s most serious Article 5 deliberation of the war. Johannes Natland (19) fra Stavanger ble kjent skyldig av en jury i Old Bailey for sammensvergelse om drap etter å ha reist til Huddersfield i mars 2025 med to håndvåpen for å utføre et leiedrap. Han ble rekruttert av Foxtrot-nettverket — en svensk kriminell gruppe sanksjonert av både Storbritannia og USA for bånd til det iranske regimet — via en Signal-gruppe kalt «Assassin EU», og tilbudt ~£21 000 for «Killing in England». Han fikk aldri vite hvem målet var. Rekruttereren, en 17-åring kalt «Generalen», ble pågrepet på Oslo lufthavn; meldinger på telefonen hans utløste en kappløp for å finne Natland før han slo til. Politiet fant ham på rom 207 med våpnene under sengen. Foxtrot krediteres med å ha vært pioner for det Europol kaller «violence-as-a-service». Natland dømmes i oktober.

«Vold som handelsvare» driver grov ungdomsvold i Oslo

Hidden instructions are embedded in an external Word document using white-on-white text — invisible to humans but fully readable by the LLM, since Copilot strips formatting before passing content to the model. Impulse Voice brings offline system-wide dictation to Hyprland: hold Super+R to record via PipeWire, release to transcribe using NVIDIA’s Parakeet V3 model through ONNX Runtime, and the result is injected into the focused window. No cloud, no accounts; ~478 MB model with SHA-256 verification. It integrates into the Quickshell-based Illogical Impulse desktop. Currently CachyOS or Arch + Quickshell + Rust — no NixOS packaging yet, but the architecture (local ASR → focused-window injection) is worth tracking.

devenv 2.2: attach to running processes, persistent out-of-tree environments

devenv 2.2 ships two headline features. devenv up now attaches to an already-running process manager instead of failing — live status, ports and recent logs across any terminal, with Ctrl-C offering detach-or-stop. And devenv allow makes --from environment bindings persistent, so any devenv command in a directory auto-loads the bound config (local path or GitHub remote). Also new: automatic shell activation in fish/nushell, more reliable loading across tmux/SSH/nested shells, and SecretSpec 0.17 integration for private Cachix caches without exposing auth tokens.

nvimx: manage Neovim plugins with Nix via your existing lazy.nvim Lua config

nvimx is a new home-manager module that manages Neovim plugins through Nix while letting you write config in familiar lazy.nvim-style Lua specs. nvimx-lock evaluates your spec, fetches plugins from GitHub, and pins them to flake.lock; subsequent builds are fully offline. Unlike nixvim (which depends on nixpkgs availability), nvimx fetches directly from GitHub — no manual hash management. Tree-sitter grammars are pre-built to skip runtime compilation; plugins can be overridden or swapped for nixpkgs packages, and an unmanaged ~/.config/nvim escape hatch is available for fast iteration.

Guix by Nix: a bootable Guix system where every byte lives in /nix/store

Farid Zakaria has built a working bootable VM where every executable comes from Guix derivations translated into Nix via his guix-transfer tool — yet everything resides in /nix/store because Nix built it. The system runs the Guix Linux kernel, GNU Shepherd as PID 1 (no systemd, no D-Bus, no NixOS activation scripts), and ~42 translated packages; an audit verifies no Nixpkgs binaries sneak in. Presented at nix.vegas/DEFCON 34, it’s a proof that the two package-manager ecosystems can interoperate at the system level.

The 2026.8 beta lets users rename entity IDs and control sort order. New installs no longer require the :8123 suffix, with automatic rollback if the new port setting breaks access. Moon phase and vibration detection become first-class automation triggers/conditions; the Cloud settings page is redesigned feature-by-feature; “Developer Tools” is renamed “Tools” and ~43 “advanced/expert” labels removed.
